Claim: At a Dr. Oz campaign event in PA, an employee holds a campaign poster to read “Dr. No.”

False

A photo during a Dr. Oz Campaign Event in Pennsylvania was changed so that the campaign poster read “Dr. No” instead of the original photo, which featured the campaign poster reading “Dr. Oz.”

In a recent viral photo, Dr.Oz, a Congressional Senate candidate in Pennslyvania, wearing a blue suit is pictured with a group of employees from a diner, presumably at a campaign event. A woman seemingly holds an Oz campaign poster vertically so it reads “Dr. No” instead of “Dr. Oz.” The image has low resolution and is somewhat blurry, with the hand of the woman holding the poster hidden. The viral picture was in fact doctored; it was edited to read “Dr. No” instead when the original photo shows the woman correctly holding the sign horizontally to read “Dr. Oz” as intended.

The original photo was shared on Dr. Oz’s social media accounts. Katya Rodriquez, the woman who held up the sign, told The Associated Press that she held it horizontally. Rachel Tripp, the photographer who took the original photo, also clarifies that the sign was held horizontally, not vertically. Rodriguez was surprised that the altered photo was widely trending.

At first glance, the altered photo appears authentic, however, it has a much lower resolution and reveals hasty alterations of the sign holder’s hand. The person, or group, responsible for the digital editing is unknown. The ‘NO’ sign is not authentic, and the manipulated version (Right) of the real photo (Left).

This claim is false.
